Yoga keeps me sane and feeling comfortable in my body. I suffer from scoliosis and without yoga I feel achey. When I practice or even after teaching, I experience a sense of calm and happiness, some might say bliss.

When I was younger, I tried a few variations of fast-moving yoga and exercise. It was all about the postures. Now it is less about competing with myself and more about the journey.

“It’s important to find what gives you joy, to listen to your body to allow your mind to be quiet”

Often my yoga practice will be meditation because that’s what my body and mind need. I am more mindful as I get older. Being sustainable and recycled is so important. We must do what we can to stop this culture of throw-away fashion.

Taking it slower allows me to get deeper into postures with less chance of injury. I am more aware of how my body is feeling and then it’s up to me whether I push through or listen to it and take it slower. I feel stronger now, more than ever. As a woman in my 50’s, I know how important it is to maintain flexibility and muscle tone, especially during perimenopause and menopause.

For me keeping fit is about enjoyment. It is part of my life. I practice regularly and teach a lot of classes but sometimes I just want to be surrounded by nature, to be by the sea or to walk up a hill.
